The 2022-23 season will mark the first for Connor Mooney with the Eastern Michigan University men’s basketball program after he joined the EMU Sports Performance staff in September 2022.
A native of Aurora, Colo., comes to Ypsilanti after a one-year stint at Saint Leo University in Saint Leo, Fla. During his time with the Lions, Mooney served as an assistant strength and conditioning coach as well as the Interim Director of Strength and Conditioning for a brief time. During his time with SLU, Mooney was responsible for working daily with the men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s lacrosse, and women’s soccer programs.
Prior to SLU, Mooney was a two-year member of the staff at the University of Tampa. The assistant strength and conditioning coach was tasked with working with the Spartans’ men’s and women’s basketball, and men’s and women’s soccer programs while also assisting with the baseball team as he worked with the pitching staff. He got his start in sport performance as an intern at Colorado Mesa University (2017-18) where he assisted the staff with men’s and women’s basketball, and women’s lacrosse.
Mooney graduated with his Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from Colorado Mesa in 2018 before attaining his Master’s in Exercise & Nutrition Sciences from Tampa in 2020. Currently, he is working toward his Ph.D. in Health and Human Performance through Concordia University (Chicago).
Mooney holds both his Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach certificates from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) while also holding a USA Weightlifting Level 1 certification.
