Award-winning sports writer Victoria Sun is in her fourth season as the director of operations for the Eastern Michigan University men's basketball program.
“We’re excited to complete our staff by adding someone of Vicky Sun’s caliber,” Murphy said when he announced the addition of Sun to the EMU staff. “She has the basketball knowledge, dedication and commitment that will help us in many areas of our program.”
Sun, who was a manager for the Syracuse University men’s basketball team during the 1993-95 seasons and also worked as an office assistant, spent the past four summers helping organize and manage several boys’ AAU basketball tournaments in Los Angeles and Las Vegas.
Prior to joining the EMU staff, Sun spent nearly 15 years as a journalist. She was a member of the United States Basketball Writers Association and a contributor to Lindy’s preseason college basketball magazine as well as the Basketball Times. Her work has appeared in numerous publications, including the Associated Press, USA Today, the Los Angeles Times and she most recently worked for FoxSportsWest.com. She previously worked as a journalist for the Cincinnati Post, the Las Vegas Sun, the Riverside Press-Enterprise and the Desert Sun.
In addition, Sun worked as an official basketball statistics keeper for several Fox Sports television affiliates, covered the University of Kentucky, Xavier University and the UNLV men’s basketball programs and also wrote a golf and tennis column.
Sun graduated from Syracuse University with a bachelor’s degree in journalism in 1997. A native of Hong Kong, Sun grew up in Los Angeles. She attended South High School in Torrance, Calif. where she played varsity tennis for three seasons and also kept statistics for the boys’ basketball team. As a senior, Sun reached the California Interscholastic Federation (C.I.F.) tennis quarterfinals in doubles and also played on the Syracuse University women’s tennis team from 1993-95.
Sun is the daughter of Victor and Rosina Sun. She has one sister, Joyce.
