Eastern Michigan University Head Men's Basketball Coach Rob Murphy announced the hiring of LaKita Gantz as the Eagles' new Director of Men's Basketball Operations Monday, Aug. 15. Gantz joins the EMU men's hoops squad after most recently serving as an English teacher at Detroit Mumford High School and the head coach of the Oakland Community College (OCC) women's basketball program.

"We are excited to add LaKita to our Eagle family," remarked Murphy. "She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience, along with a great work ethic that will be beneficial to both our staff and student-athletes."

Gantz, a Detroit, Mich. native, has spent two academic years as an English teacher at Mumford, while she has also served as the Senior Defense Coordinator at the secondary school. In that role, Gantz helps to coordinate and schedule senior class portfolios and presentations for the entire senior student body at Mumford High School. In addition to her work at Mumford, Gantz was the Director of Women's Sports for the Horatio Williams Foundation, as well as a basketball skills trainer at Basketball Training 101.

Prior to her time at Mumford High School and Oakland Community College, Gantz was an English teacher and coach at Southeastern High School in Detroit. While teaching, she was the head girls basketball coach and cross country coach for the Jungaleers.

Before heading to Southeastern, Gantz spent time serving as the head girls' basketball coach for the Jalen Rose Leadership Academy (JRLA) in Detroit; where she worked to help develop and advance players basketball skills sets, while handling the scheduling of regular season, Amateur Athletic Union, and summer league contests for the academy.

In addition to her time at the JRLA, she was the head women's basketball coach at St. Clair Community College from 2011-12. During her time at SC4, in addition to her coaching responsibilities, she coordinated all of the teams travel arrangements, while hosting each of the team's recruiting visits with prospective student-athletes. She also led the program's scouting efforts and enforced student-athletes adherence to all school and athletic department policies and regulations. Gantz' other coaching stops include Detroit Pershing High School where she was an assistant coach for the girls basketball team from 2008-10, Team Michigan-Boys AAU from 2004-05, University Prepatory High School from 2003-04, Mumford High for three years, 2000-03, and first stint at Detroit Cooley High School. 2000-01.

Along with her coaching experience, Gantz briefly served as the Athletic Director at Highland Park High School where she oversaw all day-to-day operations for the entire athletic department at both the high school and middle school. She was responsible for handling the department budget and coordinating transportation for all athletic events. Additionally, she was in charge of educating parents and teachers on ACT/SAT and NCAA Clearinghouse regulations for prospective intercollegiate student-athletes.

Gantz graduated from Savannah State University in 2000 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in mass communications with an emphasis in theatre. The Detroit, Mich. native was a two-year letterwinner at Savannah State. Additionally, Gantz played a pair of seasons at Shaw University. In 2004, she earned her Master of Arts in education with a secondary English teaching certificate from Wayne State University. Gantz completed her education in the Educational Specialist Certification Program in 2007 with a School Administrator Certification from Wayne State as well.
