Hassan Nizam enters his first season at Eastern Michigan as an assistant coach for the men’s basketball program in the 2026-27 season.
Nizam joins the Eagles after most recently serving as an assistant men’s basketball coach at Cal State Fullerton, helping coach the Titans to an 18-16 record in 2025 with a 12-win improvement in a season where they were predicted to finish last in the Big West Conference.
Prior to joining Cal State Fullerton, Nizam was an assistant coach at Central Michigan University for the 2024-25 season. Nizam was part of a coaching staff that coached the Chippewas to their first winning season since 2019, including a top-3 defense in the Mid American Conference and the most conference wins (12) since 2015.
Heavily tied to the Michigan area, Nizam was a highly successful head coach of Macomb County Community College’s men’s basketball program from 2022-2023. In his two seasons at the helm, the Monarchs had their two best seasons in program history, including an NJCAA National Runner Up in 2023. Nizam also sent 12 players to the four-year level during his tenure.
Nizam coached extensively in the Metro Detroit area, serving as the head men’s basketball coach of Roseville High School from 2017-2021. Under his tutelage, Roseville was a consistent winner: the first two league titles in program history and four-time district champions.
A brief stint at the University of Michigan Dearborn in 2016 saw Nizam help the Wolverines to their first 20-win season in program history.
Nizam began his coaching career at Fordson High School, serving as the head coach of the junior varsity men’s basketball program and the assistant coach for the varsity men’s program. Charged with offseason training and recruiting, Fordson won MHSAA District Championships three times with Nizam’s guidance (2013, 2014, 2015).
Nizam began his education at Eastern Michigan University in 2015, studying Secondary Education until 2018 before transferring to Capella University and graduating in 2020 with a degree in Business Administration.
