EMU Physician Bios

Eileen A. Crawford, MD
Dr. Crawford is an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Michigan. She is a Team Orthopaedic Surgeon for Eastern Michigan University Athletics and the University of Michigan Athletics. Dr. Crawford first came to EMU as a fellow in 2013, and returned in 2017 as a Team Orthopedic Surgeon. She has also volunteered as a team medical provider for the US Rowing Team. Her practice includes adult and paediatric sports medicine with clinical interests of shoulder and knee disorders, pediatric sports injuries, sports-related fractures, arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder and knee, and general sports-related injuries.
Dr. Crawford completed her medical and orthopaedic surgery training at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.  She first came to the University of Michigan for specialized fellowship training in sports medicine and shoulder surgery.  She then returned to her home state of Delaware, where she worked as a community-based Orthopaedic Surgeon specializing in Sports Medicine. She thoroughly enjoyed caring for the local high school and collegiate athletic teams and developed an affinity for treating the young athletes.  The emphasis on education, cutting-edge research and idea-sharing among colleagues that she had experienced at the University of Michigan ultimately drew her back to Ann Arbor.  She has joined her mentors in the Sports Medicine department at the University of Michigan and developed a pediatric sports medicine niche within the group.
Dr. Crawford is a graduate of Princeton University, where she was a national champion in Women’s Lightweight Rowing.  This experience allows her to understand the goals of the competitive athlete in recovering from injury.  She understands that patients have varying needs during this recovery process, so she believes that one of her most important tasks is to listen to her patients concerns and develop a strategy that works well for each individual.
