Questions & Answers:

What to do if you receive a bill?
If you receive a bill please send it ASAP to the insurance coordinator in order to properly pay the bill on time. You can either fax, mail or email the bill to the insurance coordinator.

Who is 1st agency?
1st agency is a secondary insurance company that deals with athletic insurance. EMU uses 1st agency as the secondary insurance company. They may contact you by mail if there is extra information needed on a bill such as an explanation of benefit.

Why are you requesting explanations of benefits (EOBs)?
In order to properly pay on the bill we need to know the remaining balance of the bill to ensure proper payment.

What bills get paid for?
Only athletic related injuries that happened during an NCAA competition and or practice. The bills also need to pre authorized by EMU’s physician and or EMU Sports Medicine staff.

Does Eastern Michigan University pay for the entire medical bill?
No, bills must first be processed through your primary insurance company. Then the athletic injury insurance acts as the secondary and will pick up the remainder of the bill. In some circumstances it may not be covered under the secondary insurance.
