Varsity Field served as the home of the Eastern Michigan University softball team from the 1980s until 2018. The stadium featured a renovated press box completed in 1998 and offered a large bleacher seating area capable of holding more than 500 fans. In 2007, an outdoor turf cage and a new equipment room were added to enhance training and practice capabilities. Following the 2008 season, the Eagles gained a new locker room with 25 lockers and an additional storage area. In the spring of 2011, the facility received a new fence, sound system, and backstop. During the fall of 2012, new dirt was installed for both the playing field and the warning track, and a digital scoreboard was added just outside the left-field fence. The facility was further upgraded in 2015 with ADA-compliant seating and permanent restrooms, completing its modernization and ensuring accessibility for all spectators.
