What Others Are Saying About Jim Streeter

Jim Streeter is retiring from his post as the Associate Athletics Director for Media Relations, effective Oct. 19, 2012.

"There has never been someone so knowledgeable, professional, and passionate about a university and a sports program. Jim is a true gentleman, a true sports professional, and an all around great person. I first met Jim when we were both young men, he was the new EMU SID, I was a student athlete then a photographer for the Echo. In the past several years I've known him again professionally as a wire service photographer and now working sports for EMU. How "Streets" does his job every day with everyone is how we all should strive to do our jobs too. Professionally, honestly, with great positive attitude and integrity no matter the day. It's been a pleasure to have known you Jim. You've earned a hole-in-one next year on the course since you've been an Ace for so long here at EMU."
- Steve King, former student athlete & Echo photographer, current EMU sports photographer

"35 years ago in a surprising move, I became the Sports Editor of the Echo--pretty sure I was the first female sports editor of a college newspaper in MI. The acceptance and support of "Streeter" was gratefully received then and even more appreciated now. The Title IX wars were heating up, and some in the "fraternity" were suspicious and/or not happy. Streeter ran his shop like a pro, so it was also a learning experience. Eastern is lucky to have had him these many years. I wish I could be there in person to thank you, Jim. Please know what a difference you have made in the lives of many, including me.I wish you the gift of many, many years to enjoy your retirement."
 - Mary Rouleau, Worked with Jim in 1977-78 while on Eastern Echo staff

"Congrats Streets, You can now spend more time working on team Eagle! I wish you much happiness in your retirement."
- Swifty, Friend / Former EMU Baseball Player

"From the time I landed my first job as a rookie beat writer for the Eastern Echo until today when I have 3 grown up children and a business in Grand Rapids, Jim has not changed. That is his character. He always makes time for friends old, new and past. I go back to Jim canning 3 pointers at noon time hoops at the, then new, rec im building to today where Jim leaves a lasting legacy on EMU athletics. Jim you will be missed and never replaced."
- Ray Setlock, Friend and collegue for many years

"I have worked for Streets for more than seven years and I can honestly say there has not been one day that I have not enjoyed as a member of the SID team. Streets fosters a friendly, hard-working environment where staff is allowed to develop and evolve at their own pace. I, along with many others who have had the unique opportunity to work at EMU, know that their success in their professional careers is owed largely to what they have learned working for Streets. He welcomed me to the office on my first day on campus in 2005 and I am proud to be able to wish him the best on his final day as director in 2012."
- Chris Puzzuoli, Student Assistant, 2005-2010, Graduate Assistant, 2011-Present

"I really enjoyed working in the SID office with Jim, Paul Helgren, and John Hamel and the rest of the crew at many fun football and basketball games, which included a couple of trips to the MAC basketball tournament in Toledo with the group. I learned many things about acting in a professional manner at all times and about good character. I think Streets should write a book about the Eastern Michigan Eagles/Hurons athletic history. Best wishes to your family and godspeed in your retirement. I hope to see you at some Eagles athletic events this winter."
- Stuart Smith, Student worker for from 1987-1989

"It is rare in life that a person finds a career that they love and are passionate about to say "if I could do all over again I wouldn't change a thing." Congratulations on your retirement!"
- Mick Osman, Fraternity brother

"Even though I did not continue in a sports career like many students, Jim had great influence on me regarding discipline and dedication to duty. Jim's tireless efforts to get the job done served as a great example to me and fellow EMU students. Not only did I learn a lot about dedication to service, but learned a lot about writing and countless other skills. I wish him and his family only the best and congratulations on a great career."
-  Michael Lassman, Student Assistant, 1981-1985, Volunteer Statistician 1985-1996

"My favorite phrase that I learned from Streets is "Tragic Johnson." It can be used in many different contexts, and I still use it to this day! Congrats on the retirement, my friend. You've helped so many people decide their career paths, and are a great shoulder to lean on. While it's difficult to believe that you won't be planted in your office at the Convo in a few short weeks, I know you won't be far removed from EMU athletics. My alma mater is lucky to have had you as its SID the past 37 years, and there's no doubt in my mind I learned from one of the absolute best in the business. Hit them long and straight, and enjoy the extra time with Mary, the boys and your grand kids."
- Brett McWethy, Former student assistant, graduate assistant (1999-2005)
