Green had career-high 16 points as EMU led by 20 points in second half

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's basketball team was edged on long-range, buzzer-beating three-pointer as Ohio University prevailed, 68-67, Saturday, Jan. 3, in Mid-American Conference action inside the George Gervin GameAbove Center.
 
Braelon Green (Southfield, Mich./Southfield/Bowling Green) registered a career-high 16 points as EMU led by, as many as 20 points in the second half after limiting OU to a mere 15 points in the first half.
 
Addison Patterson (Mississauga, Ontario/Bella Vista College Prep/ Northwestern State) added 17 points and six rebounds while Jon Sanders II (Southfield, Mich./Southfield Christian Northwestern State) added 12 points via two triples in a game that Eastern led, 67-65, with a chance to add to the advantage with two free throws with 5.9 seconds to go.
 
Eastern led the game for 34:57.
 
How It Happened
After Ohio scored the game's first basket, Eastern controlled the first half, netting the following nine points.
 
EMU limited Ohio to just 24.0% shooting from the floor in the opening half, building an advantage as large as 19 at 29-10 before closing the half with a 32-15 lead.
 
Eastern opened the first half with a Green three-pointer, leading 35-15 with 18:32 remaining.
 
Momentum quickly flipped as Ohio launched a 19-7 run to cut the EMU advantage to 42-34 with 15 minutes left.
 
EMU pushed its lead back out to nine with a Patterson layup at the 10:47 mark before OU scored the game's next 11 points to take its first lead since the opening minutes.
 
The Eagles continued to battle as Patterson's three-pointer with 1:34 left bumped EMU's lead to 66-61.
 
A Sanders II free throw with 14 seconds to go put the Eagles back up four but the Bobcats quickly made a layup on the other end to come within two.
 
Eastern missed a pair of free throws with 5.8 seconds left as Ohio's 30-footer at the buzzer was good to take the game.
 
Game Notes
» Eastern moves to 7-8 overall and 1-2 in the MAC while Ohio jumps to 8-7 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
» Eastern was 21-of-52 (40.4%) from the field and 7-of-16 (43.8%) from the three-point line, while Ohio was 25-of-58 (43.1%) from the floor and 7-of-27 (25.9%) from three-point range.
» Addison Patterson scored 16 points, his third-straight game with at least 14 points. Patterson has 10 games with at least 10 points this season with six of those coming in the last seven games.
» Braelon Green's career-high 16 points edged his previous mark of 15 against NAIA foe Taylor University while at Bowling Green, Nov. 11, 2024. Green played just 19 minutes in Saturday's game, going 6-for-6 from the field.
» Braelon Green's 16 points represent the fifth time in his career he's scored double-digit points and the first time in his career converting multiple three-pointers.
» Braelon Green converted a trio three-pointers after having just one the previous 14 games.
» Eastern, which out-rebounded OU 38-35, dropped to 7-2 when out-rebounding its opponent. The Eagles also lost when out-rebounding IU Indy, Nov. 14.
» EMU limited OU to just four second-chance points, the lowest mark of any opponent this season.
» All five Eastern starters had at least one offensive rebound for the second-straight game.

» Ohio leads the all-time series, 56-29.
» Ohio's 15 first-half points are the fewest by an Eastern foe in one half since Ball State netted just 15 points in the second half in EMU's 58-41 win, Feb. 3, 2018. It also marked Ohio's fewest in one half since scoring 15 in the first half against Kent State, Feb. 18, 2022
