Eastern ranks 14th nationally in team GPA for 2024-25 season
PITTSBURGH, Pa. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics program had 17 student-athletes earn Scholastic All-America honors for the 2024-25 season as named by the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA).
As a team, the Eagles once again showcased their strong academic tradition, with multiple student-athletes earning perfect 4.0 GPAs and several others posting marks above 3.7.
"I am beyond proud of the work that these athletes put into their academics," Head Coach Katie Minasola said. "They prove each year what it means to be a student-athlete. The success that they show in the classroom and on the competition floor is remarkable!"
Overall, 1,218 student-athletes across the country earned a 3.5 or higher GPA on a 4.0 scale, representing 76.8% of all reporting gymnasts, the highest number and percentage since records began in 2008. Among them, 302 gymnasts (19.04%) achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA. This marks the fifth consecutive year with more than 1,000 Scholastic All-America recipients, with two programs breaking into the national top five for the first time. Collectively, the national average GPA for gymnasts rose to 3.6558, the highest on record since 2015. In total, 69 institutions recorded a team GPA of 3.5 or better, and in 10 of the last 11 years, at least one institution had 100% of its roster earn Scholastic All-America status.
"Women's collegiate gymnasts embody everything that is great about collegiate athletics. Their ability to excel in the classroom while performing at the highest levels of athletic competition is nothing short of inspiring," said Casey Jo MacPherson, Chair of the WCGA Board of Directors. "These young women are the epitome of the student-athlete ideal, demonstrating discipline, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to excellence in all they do. We are proud to honor these outstanding teams and individuals for their continued efforts and success in the classroom."
The Eagles return to the gym this fall in preparation for the upcoming 2025 season. To stay up to date with everything EMU Gymnastics, visit EMUEagles.com, or follow the team on X (@EMUGym) and Instagram (@emugym).
