Eastern alum joins Swiss Basketball League in first professional deal

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Former Eastern Michigan University men's basketball student-athlete Da'Sean Nelson has been signed by Fribourg Olympic of the Swiss Basketball League, the team announced Tuesday, July 22.

Nelson (Toledo, Ohio/Robert S. Rogers/Kilgore College/DePaul) is the first Eagle to earn a professional contract since Emoni Bates did so with the NBA's Cleveland Cavaliers.

Nelson established himself as one of the Mid-American Conference's top players in his lone season in the Green and White. The Second-Team All-MAC honoree averaged 16.8 points per game during MAC play while posting 16.1 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 2.6 assists averages during the 2024-25 season. Nelson was one of just four players nationally to average at least 16.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.0 steals, and 1.0 blocks.

Nelson averaged 1.1 blocks and 1.1 steals while tallying 1.4 blocks per game during conference play, the league's fourth-best mark. He led the Eagles with 5.7 rebounds per game and his knack for drawing fouls created issues for opponents as he drew 6.2 fouls per game to help him achieve a league-best 149 free throws made during the 2024-25 season.

Fribourg Olympic plays in the Swiss Basketball League and is a 17-time Swiss Basketball League champion while also winning three-straight Swiss Cups.
