Shved earns singles award while Brichackova/Vichare captured doubles honor
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) -- The Mid-American Conference announced its weekly tennis awards, April 7, with members of the Eastern Michigan University program sweeping the accolades as Daniella Shved was named the MAC Singles Player of the Week while the duo of Sabina Brichackova and Prerna Vichare were selected as the MAC Doubles Team of the Week. The awards are the first of the season for all three Eagles.
Shved () earned the singles award in a vote of the conference's coaches after posting a perfect 2-0 record at No. 1 singles over the weekend. In the opening match, she dropped the first set to Audrey Moutama of the University of Toledo before roaring back to take the road match, 5-7, 6-2, 6-3. She followed that with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Esmee Andresen of the University at Buffalo to cap the weekend away from home.
The duo of Brichackova (Cheb, Czechia/Gymnázium Jana Blahoslava) and Vichare (Mumbai, India/Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics) swept their opponents at the No. 1 position this weekend with both wins securing the doubles point for the Eagles. In the opening match, the Eagles downed Toledo's team of Neha Guru & Jacklynka Scholten, 6-4, before capping the weekend with a 6-3 win over the Buffalo team of Maria Glowacka & Jagmeet Kaur. The duo, playing in their 72nd and 73rd career matches together, captured their 41st and 42nd career wins as a team. Additionally, the wins for Brichackova moved her to 60 for her career and tied for the 18th-most in program history while the 58 wins for Vichare moved her into 20th on the ledger.
The doubles award marks the second earned by an Eastern Michigan pair this season after the rookie team of Iva Daneva (Kavadarci, North Macedonia/DSU Sportska Akademija) and Viki Hazmukova (Skvorec, Czechia/Skoly Brezova) earned the honor Jan. 27 after going 2-0 on the road at the University of Cincinnati and the University of Dayton.
The Eagles return to action at home this weekend for their final two matches at the Chippewa Club. First, EMU will welcome Northern Illinois University to town for a 1 p.m. match Friday, April 11. The weekend and home slate ends Sunday at 1 p.m. when Bowling Green State University comes to Ypsilanti. Prior to the match with the Falcons, the program will honor four players as part of Senior Day festivities, including Brichackova, Vichare, Marta Komar (Inowroclaw, Poland/Sopocka (Sopot) Tennis Academy/Wayne State), and Lily Tria (Westerly, R.I./Westerly/Colby-Sawyer).
