Brichackova and Komar earned singles wins for the Eagles
LA JOLLA. Calif. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision at the University of California San Diego Wednesday, Feb. 26, at the Northview Tennis Courts in La Jolla, Calif. The Eagles (5-5), who were playing their first two matches in southern California and their first outdoor match of the season, won two singles matches for their two points against the Tritons.
The Tritons took a 1-0 lead after doubles play by winning 2-of-3 matches. The EMU duo of Lara Diaz Zayas (Mar de Ajo, Argentina/SEADEA) and Daniella Shved (Holon, Israel/Ort Holon) combined to capture a 7-5 win at No. 3 doubles after the point had been secured.
In singles play, the hosts won the first three matches, finishing with victories at No. 2, No. 3, and No. 1, to clinch the team win. With the teams playing out all matches, the Eagles got on the board at No. 4 with Sabina Brichackova (Cheb, Czechia/Gymnázium Jana Blahoslava) scoring a 6-2, 6-3 win. After UCSD won at No. 6, the Eagles closed out the day with Marta Komar (Inowroclaw, Poland/Sopocka (Sopot) Tennis Academy/Wayne State) securing a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 win at No. 5.
The loss for the Eagles snapped their three-match winning streak and dropped them to 1-4 on the road this season.
