Hart-Led Eastern Battles Pitt, Drops 78-66 Decision

Eagles outscored Pitt in second half, 34-33

PITTSBURGH, Pa. (EMUEagles.com) – Led by 19 points and seven rebounds from Carlos Hart, the Eastern Michigan University men's basketball team dropped a competitive 78-66 to the Atlantic Coast Conference's University of Pittsburgh Monday, Nov. 10, inside the Petersen Events Center.

In addition to Hart's (Miami, Fla./North Miami/Benedict College/South Georgia State/New Orleans/Valdosta State) 19 points and seven rebounds, Mohammad Habhab (Dearborn, Mich./Dearborn/Central Michigan) produced 15 points while Addison Patterson (Mississauga, Ontario/Bella Vista/Oregon/Nevada/Salt Lake CC/Tallahassee State/Northwestern State) added 13 points.

Jon Sanders II (Detroit, Mich./Southfield Christian/East Los Angeles College/Coastal Carolina/Northwestern State) scored nine points in 9:56 of court time to lead the EMU bench production in a game that saw Eastern lead for nearly four minutes.

How It Happened
A quick 4-0 spurt put Eastern on top out of the gates before Pitt launched a 27-6 run to take a commanding advantage at 27-10.

The Eagles, which outscored the Panthers in the remainder of the contest, battled back by scoring seven of the next nine points, ultimately trailing, 45-32, at the intermission.

Eastern continued to fight throughout the second half as the hosts' lead bounced between nine and 16 points in the period.

EMU most notably cut Pitt's lead to 11 with a three-pointer by Sanders II at the 8:22 mark.

The Green and White trimmed the deficit further to 66-56 with 7:12 as Habhab made a pair of free throws.

Eastern did not come closer in the waning minutes of the game as Pittsburgh won, 78-66.

» Eastern was 22-of-59 (37.3%) from the field and 4-of-14 (28.6%) from the three-point line while Pittsburgh was 30-of-60 (50.0%) from the floor and 6-of-18 (33.3%) from three-point range.
» The Eagles also produced an impressive 18-of-21 (85.7%) mark from the free throw line, EMU's top percentage (min. 20 attempts) since going 21-for-22 (95.5%) against Buffalo, Jan. 25, 2025.
» Carlos Hart's 19-point performance marks his third-highest scoring outing of his Division I as he produced a pair of 20-plus point outings while at New Orleans during the 2023-24 season, highlighted by a 21-point effort against East Texas A&M, Feb. 10, 2024.
» With his 15 points in the first two games, Mo Habhab is the first Eagle freshman with back-to-back games of at least 15 points scored since Noah Farrakhan in the 2021-22 season.
» Mohammad Habhab converted his first career three-pointer in his 15-point outing.
» Addison Patterson's team-high four assists are his 44th career game with at least three assists.
» Jon Sanders II was 6-for-6 from the free throw line. He converted at least six free throws without one miss for the second time in his career with the most recent coming with Northwestern State in an 8-for-8 showing at Texas Tech, Nov. 8.
» Godslove Nwabude (Anambra State, Nigeria/Mt. Zion Prep (Md.)) played a career-high 19 minutes, scoring two points with four rebounds.
» Eastern had four players with one block as Habhab, Hart, Patterson, and Nwabude each rejected one Panther shot.
» All five EMU starters had at least one offensive rebound, led by three from Patterson.
» The Eagles played 13 players for the second-straight game as Habhab led EMU with 36:36 of court time.
