Freshmen pair went 2-0 on the road to help EMU capture the doubles point twice
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) -- The Mid-American Conference announced its weekly awards for tennis, Jan. 27, with the Eastern Michigan University tandem of Iva Daneva and Viki Hazmukova being named the MAC Doubles Team of the Week. The freshmen were instrumental in helping the team claim the doubles point in road duals at the University of Cincinnati and the University of Dayton over the weekend.
Daneva (Kavadarci, North Macedonia/DSU Sportska Akademija) and Hazmukova (Skvorec, Czechia/Skoly Brezova) posted a 2-0 record on the weekend to help the Eagles capture the doubles point for the third and fourth time this year. Against Cincinnati, the freshmen won, 6-2, at No. 3 to clinch the point for EMU and stake the team to a 1-0 lead. The following day, the duo moved up to No. 2 and posted another 6-2 win.
For the season, Hazmukova is 4-0 in duals in doubles play while Daneva, who did not play last week, is 2-0. In those four wins, Hazmukova and her partner have clinched the doubles point three times as she and Marta Komar (Inowroclaw, Poland/Sopocka (Sopot) Tennis Academy/Wayne State) clinched both points in a doubleheader at home against Ferris State University, Jan. 18.
Eastern returns to action with a pair of duals this weekend with one each at home and away. The Eagles open play Saturday, Feb. 1, with a 1 p.m. meeting with visiting Oakland University at the Chippewa Club in Ypsilanti. One day later, Sunday, Feb. 2, the Eagles will travel north to East Lansing, Mich., for a 4 p.m. meeting with Michigan State University.
