EMU Athletics to Hold Eighth Annual Ypsi Awards

The ESPY-style award show honors academic, citizenship, and athletic achievements
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University Department of Athletics will honor multiple student-athletes Monday, April 15, at the George Gervin GameAbove Center for their achievements in the classroom, community, and athletics at the Ypsi Awards. In its eighth year, the Ypsi Awards featured academic awards, community service awards and new honors developed and voted upon by student-athletes.
The event features EMU student-athletes, coaches, athletic department, and university staff coming together to honor the Eagles' best individuals and teams from each of Eastern Michigan's 19 sport programs. The 90-minute ceremony features live performances, video skits, and awards presentations by several EMU student-athletes and staff.
This year's categories include: Coach of the Year, Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Best Performance, Community Service Award, Breakthrough Student-Athlete of the Year, Male Student-Athlete of the Year, Female Student-Athlete of the Year, and Team of the Year.
Additionally, a new category has been added for this year called the Eagle Cup. The goal of Eagle Cup is to encourage each student-athlete to log 20 hours of community service and focus on their holistic development, prioritizing personal and professional growth opportunities Through a point system that tracks personal and professional growth milestones, EMU student-athletes have earned points for their team through participation in volunteer work, community service, and mentorship opportunities.
"We are excited to crown an 'Eagle Cup Champion' and celebrate all of our student-athletes off-field contributions and community service," said Sara Tisdale, EMU Head Lacrosse Coach/DEIB Coordinator. "We champion a culture of belonging and empowerment, ensuring that every member of our athletic community has the opportunity to thrive and make a meaningful difference."
During the 2022-23 academic year, Eastern Michigan Athletics continued the tradition of working closely with the campus and local community totaling 5,694 hours of community service.
