Eagles unable to sweep the Cardinals on the weekend after winning, 6-1, at home Friday afternoon

MUNCIE, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University tennis team dropped a close 4-3 decision on the road at Ball State University Sunday, March 24, as the Eagles were able to claim a trio of wins in singles play before the Cardinals clinched the Mid-American Conference competition in Muncie, Ind. The Eagles (7-8, 1-2 MAC) and Cardinals (5-10, 2-1 MAC) met for the second time this weekend after Eastern scored a 6-1 home win Friday, March 22, in Ypsilanti.

How It Happened
Ball State opened the day taking the doubles point as the Cardinals were victorious at both No. 1 and No. 2. The Eagles' team of Sabina Brichackova (Cheb, Czech Republic/Gymnázium Jana Blahoslava) and Ksyusha Saenko (Voronezh, Russia/Gymnasium 2) led their No. 3 doubles match, 4-3, before it was abandoned after the Cardinals had clinched the point.

Moving into singles, Andrea Quiroz (Lima, Peru/La Molina 1278/Alcorn State) tied things up at 1-1 as she won at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-1, making her 2-0 in singles play on the weekend. BSU reclaimed the lead with a win at No. 2 singles before Saenko closed out her match at No. 4 with a 6-4, 6-3 victory. The Eagles claimed their first lead of the day with Linda Eloundou (Yaounde, Cameroon/Augustine Meyou/New Mexico Military Institute) winning at No. 5, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4, but the scoring ended there as the host Cardinals secured three-set victories at No. 6 and No. 1 singles to claim the 4-3 team win.
