Tennis Falls in Close Mac Road Dual at Ball State, 4-3

Eagles unable to sweep the Cardinals on the weekend after winning, 6-1, at home Friday afternoon
MUNCIE, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University tennis team dropped a close 4-3 decision on the road at Ball State University Sunday, March 24, as the Eagles were able to claim a trio of wins in singles play before the Cardinals clinched the Mid-American Conference competition in Muncie, Ind. The Eagles (7-8, 1-2 MAC) and Cardinals (5-10, 2-1 MAC) met for the second time this weekend after Eastern scored a 6-1 home win Friday, March 22, in Ypsilanti.
How It Happened
Ball State opened the day taking the doubles point as the Cardinals were victorious at both No. 1 and No. 2. The Eagles' team of Sabina Brichackova (Cheb, Czech Republic/Gymnázium Jana Blahoslava) and Ksyusha Saenko (Voronezh, Russia/Gymnasium 2) led their No. 3 doubles match, 4-3, before it was abandoned after the Cardinals had clinched the point.
Moving into singles, Andrea Quiroz (Lima, Peru/La Molina 1278/Alcorn State) tied things up at 1-1 as she won at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-1, making her 2-0 in singles play on the weekend. BSU reclaimed the lead with a win at No. 2 singles before Saenko closed out her match at No. 4 with a 6-4, 6-3 victory. The Eagles claimed their first lead of the day with Linda Eloundou (Yaounde, Cameroon/Augustine Meyou/New Mexico Military Institute) winning at No. 5, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4, but the scoring ended there as the host Cardinals secured three-set victories at No. 6 and No. 1 singles to claim the 4-3 team win.

›› Eastern fell to 7-8 overall and 1-2 in MAC play while Ball State moved to 5-10 overall and 1-1 in the MAC.
›› The Eagles are still in search of a road victory in 2024 as all seven wins have come at home and all eight losses on the road.
›› The Eagles moved to 33-15 in their all-time series with the Cardinals and split the series this year after winning, 6-1, Friday, March 22, in Ypsilanti.
›› Eastern is now 106-95 all-time in one-point matches and 60-50 when those duals are on the road. Additionally, the Eagles are 40-44 in one-point MAC duals with a 23-21 record on the road.
›› Andrea Quiroz and Ksyusha Saenko both went 2-0 in singles action over the weekend as both won in straight sets in their respective matches as No. 3 and No. 4.
›› Linda Eloundou also was undefeated in her two singles matches at No. 5 over the weekend as she battled to three-set wins in each. In both duals, she won the first set before dropping the second and then rebounding to claim victory with a third-set win.
