Tyson Acuff Named MAC Player of the Week Following 34-Point Effort

CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) -- Eastern Michigan University men's basketball junior Tyson Acuff has been named the Mid-American Conference Player of the Week, the MAC announced Monday, Feb. 19.
Acuff (Detroit, Mich./Cass Tech/Duquesne) poured in a season-high 34 points to go with a career-high 10 rebounds for his first career double-double in a 69-60 win over Bowling Green State University, Feb. 17, the team's lone game of the week. Acuff netted 22 points in the first half, which included 11 points in the game's first 4:49.
His 34 points against BGSU are tied for the 10th-most by a player inside the George Gervin GameAbove Center (since 1998-99). Acuff was 12-for-21 from the field, converting nine field goals in the first half. His nine field goals made in the opening half are tied for the most field goals made in a half against a Division I foe in George Gervin GameAbove Center history. Acuff tallied his seventh game with at least 29 points (one of three players in the nation), 12th game with at least 23 points (one of six players in the nation), and ninth game with 10-plus made field goals (one of three players in the nation).
Acuff, who overtook BGSU's Marcus Hill as the MAC's leading scorer at the conclusion of the EMU win, leads the nation with 8.08 field goals made per game and ranks sixth with 21.8 points per game. Acuff also has an active streak of 27 games scoring at least 11 points.
Acuff, who was named Second-Team Preseason All-MAC, was named Co-MAC Player of the Week Feb 13, 2023 after averaging 35.5 points over a two-game stretch.
Acuff is the first Eagle since Bryce McBride to receive the honor outright and the first since Emoni Bates to receive the honor. McBride did so Dec. 13, 2021, while Bates was named MAC Co-Player of the Week, Feb. 27, 2023.
