Eagles open MAC play Saturday, Jan. 4, against Northern Illinois

DAVIDSON, N.C. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's basketball team was topped at Davidson College, 86-64, Saturday, Dec. 28, at John M. Belk Arena.

Da'Sean Nelson (Toledo, Ohio/Robert S. Rogers/Kilgore College/DePaul) led Eastern with 16 points as the Eagles struggled offensively in the game's early stages.

How it Happened
After a fire alarm caused more than a 20-minute delay, Davidson burst out of the gates with a 24-4 advantage over the first 11:40.

The teams played even the remainder of the half as Davidson took a 41-21 lead into the locker room.

Eastern battled back to within 69-55 with 6:47 to play before the Wildcats extended their lead to as many as 27 in the final minute.

Game Notes
» Eastern moved to 6-6 overall while Davidson moved to 10-3 on the season.
» Eastern Michigan was 23-of-57 (40.4%) from the floor and 9-of-27 (33.3%) from three-point range while Davidson was 26-of-49 (53.1%) from the field and 12-of-24 (50.0%) from deep.
» Nelson has eight-straight games with at least 10 points for the first time in his career.
» Dillon Tingler (Hurricane, W. Va./Huntington Expression Prep) made his second-straight start and third of the season, making two three-pointers for the first time in his career.
» Arne Osojnik (Ljubljana, Slovenia/Dream City Christian) netted 10 points, his 13th double-digit scoring game of his career and first since Nov. 30 against Detroit Mercy.
» Jalen Terry (Flint, Mich. Beecher/Oregon/DePaul) dished out a season-high six assists, besting his previous mark of five, which was achieved most recently against Northern Arizona, Nov. 26.
» Jalin Billingsley (Cleveland, Ohio Lutheran East Georgetown) registered two steals for the second time this season and first time since Dec. 3 at Loyola Chicago.

Historical Notes
» EMU moved to 0-2 against Davidson.
» All five Eastern starters made at least one three-pointer for the first time since at least the 2008-09 season.
» The Eagles had seven different players make at least one three-pointer for the first time since Nov. 12, 2019, against Goshen.
» EMU tallied 12 assists, marking its 11th-straight game with at least 10 assists, the Eagles' longest streak since a 13-game streak in 2017-18.
» Eastern, which hit nine threes against Davidson, has now hit at least one triple in 625-straight games. EMU last failed to score from downtown Jan. 24, 2004, when Miami University held the Eagles to 0-of-7 from behind the arc. The Eagles have converted multiple three-pointers in 47-straight contests, not having done so most recently in a 1-for-15 performance against Akron, Feb.14, 2023. EMU has 13 consecutive games is the Eagles' longest since a 15-game streak extending from the 2020-21 to the 2021-22 season.
