YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) –
The Eastern Michigan University soccer team played Western Michigan University to a 1-1 draw, Sunday, Oct. 13 at Scicluna Field.

The Eagles scored the equalizer on a Secora Johnson (Galena, Ohio/Olentangy Orange) goal in the 86th minute of play to secure the draw.

How It Happened
The Eastern Michigan defense kept Western Michigan off the scoreboard despite the Broncos' 15 shots and 12 corner kicks in the match's opening period.

The game was scoreless for the first 81 minutes before Western Michigan jumped ahead in the 82nd minute of play to take a 1-0 lead. The Eagles would come back and score on a Johnson goal at the 85:09 mark. It remained scoreless the rest of the way.

Redshirt sophomore Ella Holland (Dunwoody, Ga./Dunwoody/Samford) was sensational in goal, making seven saves, as Eastern faced heavy pressure throughout the match.

Western Michigan won the shots battle against the Eagles, 24-5, while holding a 16-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Game Notes
» Eastern moved to 5-5-4 (1-2-4 MAC) on the year while Western Michigan moved to 7-1-6 (4-0-2 MAC) for the season.
» Sophomore Sarah Van Euwen (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake) and redshirt sophomore Scarlett Thomas (Sterling Heights, Mich./Utica Academy/Missouri) each played 90 minutes, marking Van Euwen's 12th full game of the season and Thomas' ninth.
» Johnson's goal in the 86th minute of the match was her first goal of the 2024 season. Additionally, it is also just the second goal of her career, who had her first career goal on Aug. 28, 2022, at St Bonaventure.

Historical Notes

» The draw marks the first stalemate between the teams since Oct. 31, 2010.
» With the match ending in a draw, the Eagles have now opened the season at home without a loss in seven straight matches. It is the first time this has happened since they won or tied 14 straight home matches in all of the 1999 and part of the 2000 season.
