Eagles earn point in MAC home opener
Recap Video
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Sophomore Lily Spotak (Palatine, Ill./William Fremd) netted a 20th-minute goal to lead the Eastern Michigan University soccer team in a 1-1 draw against Ball State University Sunday, Sept. 24 at Scicluna Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Eastern Michigan earned a penalty kick in the 20th-minute as Tiffanie Hollingsworth (South Lyon, Mich./South Lyon East) drew a foul against Ball State's goalkeeper inside the box. Freshman Kate Robinson's (Madison Heights, Mich./Lamphere) penalty attempt was saved by the Ball State keeper but Spotak collected the rebound and sent a right-footed shot inside the far post from eight yards out to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.
EMU kept its lead through 45 minutes of play before Ball State scored just 2:21 into the second half to even the match at 1-1.
A 72nd-minute strike from junior Sam Lenaghan (Toronto, Ontario/Havergal College) proved to be the final 40 minutes' most dangerous chance as her 20-yard shot was tipped off the crossbar by the Cardinal keeper to earn one of the Eagles' 10 corner kicks.
Each team had 13 shots but EMU held a 10-2 advantage in corners.
