EMU will now enforce a clear bag policy along with an enhanced screening process
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University and EMU Athletics make the safety and comfort of fans our top priority. This season fans will notice increased security around all ticketed athletic events, beginning at the football team's home opener against Howard University, Sept. 1.
Attendees will now be required to walk through metal detectors when entering the Rynearson Stadium and the George Gervin GameAbove Center. The University also implemented a clear bag policy to make entry quicker on game day.
These are purely preventative measures, but because they may cause slight delays moving around the area, fans might want to arrive a little earlier than they did last year. We ask for your patience and are confident that you will love your game day experience.
As part of the clear bag policy, fans may bring in one clear bag no larger than 12 inches x 6 inches x 12 inches or a one-gallon plastic storage bag. Fans are limited to one clear bag per person, or a small clutch bag (no larger than 4.5 inches x 6.5 inches) for privacy.
This policy is in line with similar security measures at Ford Field, Comerica Park, Little Caesars Arena, and Michigan Stadium.
Guests carrying a prohibited bag will not be permitted inside the venue. Fans with prohibited bags will need to return their bags to their vehicle and transfer their belongings to an approved clear plastic bag before entering the venue.
All fan entrances to Rynearson Stadium and George Gervin GameAbove Center will be utilizing metal detectors to screen fans entering the building. Additionally, handheld wands will be utilized to screen individuals, in the case a secondary screening is needed.
Fans will be asked to follow the instructions of the gate security personnel and place their approved clear bags on the screening tables before passing through the metal detectors.
Based on the metal detectors in use, fans DO NOT need to remove: cell phones, keys, belts, wallets, watches, jewelry, coins, or jackets.
Public entrances will continue to open 90 minutes prior to football games and 60 minutes prior to for volleyball basketball games. Fans are encouraged to plan accordingly and arrive at least 15 minutes earlier than normal to help ensure they are in their seats for the game.
