Eagles set to open the season Sept. 1; will play host to EMU Fall Classic, Oct. 20, in Dexter, Mich.

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University cross country teams are set to race in eight competitions during the 2023 season, EMU Director of Cross Country/Track & Field Sue Parks announced today, Aug. 1. The Eagles will open their schedule Sept. 1 with six regular-season competitions before jumping into the championship season at the end of October.

Eastern will toe the line for the first time Sept. 1 when it ventures to Shepard, Mich., for the Jeff Drenth Memorial, hosted by Central Michigan University, a meet in which the EMU men captured the team title and the women placed second one year ago. Two weeks later, the Eagles will head south to Bowling Green, Ohio, for the Mel Brodt Collegiate Open, hosted by Bowling Green State University, Sept. 15, with the women looking to better their runner-up showing from 2022 with the men building upon their fourth-place finish. The opening month closes Sept. 30 with the Live in Lou Cross Country Classic in Louisville, Ky.

The Eagles will split their squads Oct. 13 with one group heading to the Arturo Barrios Invitational, hosted by Texas A&M University, in College Station, Texas, while the remaining Eagles will return to Bowling Green, Ohio, for BGSU's Falcon Invitational. The final regular-season meet of the season comes Oct. 20 with Eastern playing host to the EMU Fall Classic, which will once again be held at Hudson Hills Metropark in Dexter, Mich. The event is slated to start at 4 p.m.

The championship season opens Oct. 28 as the Eagles will make their third trip to Bowling Green, Ohio, this time for the 2023 Mid-American Conference Cross Country Championships. Last year, both EMU teams placed third at the conference meet held in Athens, Ohio. From there, Eastern will travel to Madison, Wis., for the 2023 NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships, Nov. 10, with the top two teams automatically advancing from the meet to the 2023 NCAA Cross Country Championships, Nov. 18, in Charlottesville, Va.
