A national search for his replacement will begin immediately

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Steve Schram has resigned his position as head coach of Eastern Michigan University tennis, EMU Vice President/Director of Athletics Scott Wetherbee announced today, July 19. A national search for the 11th head coach in program history will begin immediately.

"We wish Steve well on his new opportunity," Wetherbee expressed. "Now, our focus shifts towards discovering a new leader who will propel us towards our ultimate objective of returning the Mid-American Conference title to Ypsilanti."

Schram took the reigns of the tennis program July 18, 2022, and guided the Eagles to a 6-9 record in 2023 with a 3-7 mark in Mid-American Conference play. With an all-time coaching record of 126-58, Schram garnered his 125th career victory March 31, 2023, as he guided the Eagles to a 4-3 win at Western Michigan University, the program's first win in Kalamazoo since 2002.

"I want to thank Scott Wetherbee, Associate AD Stacie McMullen, and the entire athletic department for all the help they have given me during my time here," said Schram. "Although this was a very tough decision, I'm looking forward to the next opportunity. I wish this program nothing but the best moving forward and know they are set up for continued success moving forward."

Individually, freshman Daniella Shved (Holon, Israel/ORT Holon) earned MAC All-Conference First Team honors, the 14th such honor in program history and the first since 2018, and was the lone first-year player in the MAC to earn first-team accolades. She finished the season with a 12-2 record in singles and captured eight doubles wins with partner and fellow freshman Wanyi Zhang (Bejing, China/Crnjanski Gimnzija (Serbia)).

The Eagles were successful academically as well with the team earning All-Academic honors from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) for the fourth year in a row as the team combined to post a grade-point average of 3.525. Individually, four Eagles earned ITA All-Academic honors, including junior Linda Eloundou Nga (Yaounde, Cameroon/Augustine Meyou/New Mexico Military Institute), junior Andrea Quiroz (Lima, Peru/La Molina 1278/Alcorn State), sophomore Sabina Brichackova (Cheb, Czech Republic/Gymnázium Jana Blahoslava), and sophomore Prerna Vichare (Mumbai, India/Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics) with Brichackova and Vichare also earning Academic All-MAC honors.
