YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) –
The Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team played tough through the lineup, but ultimately came up short, 5-2, in a match against Miami University today, April 16, at the Chippewa Club in Ypsilanti, Mich.

Eastern Michigan (6-7, 3-5 MAC) forced four third sets in singles play, but was only able to muster two points en route to the setback. Still, EMU is just one match under the .500 mark.

How it Happened
The match started with doubles play, where Eastern Michigan was unable to secure the available point. The No. 3 pairing of Linda Eloundou Nga (Yaounde, Cameroon-Augustine Meyou-New Mexico Military Institute) and Andrea Quiroz (Lima, Peru-La Molina 1278-Alcorn State) worked together to earn their second win of the weekend after defeating Northern Illinois University Friday, April 14.

Following doubles play, the match moved to singles, where Eastern Michigan forced four matches into third sets, while winning another in straight sets.

It was Daniella Shved (Holon, Isreal-ORT Holon) who led the way for the Eagles at the No. 2 position. After surrendering just two games in a 6-2 opening set, she faced a push from Miami's Catherine Slowek. Despite the adversity, Shved was able to push through for a 7-5 victory in the second set and secure the straight-set win.

EMU got its second win at the No. 4 slot, where Sabina Brichackova (Cheb, Czech Republic-Gymnázium Jana Blahoslava) used a third-set thriller to claim victory. Brichackova won the first set, 6-2, before falling in a back-and-forth second-set tiebreak, 7-6 (7-4). Then, in the third and final set, she was able to hold a break and win, 6-4.

Eastern forced third sets at the No. 5 and No. 6 spots as well, but was unable to find a win.

Match Notes
» Shved continues to make an impact for EMU as she moved to a team-best 9-2 in singles play with her victory today. Her total wins (10), and win percentage (83%) are both team-bests for the first-year Eagle.
» Brichackova kept pace as the second-leading singles player with her win in today's contest. She is now 9-4 on the season.
» Quiroz and Nga have won consecutive doubles matches for the first time this season. Their three total wins as a pairing is the tied for the second most by any duo for the Eagles this season.
» EMU forced four third-set matches in today's contest, the most by the team this season.

Historical Notes
» Eastern Michigan closes its 2023 home schedule with a 3-4 mark at home. The Eagles have two Mid-American Conference regular-season matches remaining before they close their 2023 spring campaign.
