Second consecutive regional appearance on beam for sophomore
PITTSBURGH, Pa. (EMUEagles.com) - Eastern Michigan University gymnastics will be represented by individual beam qualifier Ella Chemotti (Canton, Mich.-Canton) at the NCAA Pittsburgh Regional, March 30 to April 2, inside the University of Pittsburgh's Petersen Events Center.
The sophomore will compete in the regional's second round and second session, March 31, at 7 p.m. Chemotti will rotate with the University of Maryland and compete as the final performer on beam in the second rotation.
The top two teams from each of the four NCAA regionals this weekend will receive an automatic berth to the national championships. In addition, the top all-around competitor and top event specialist from round two at each regional (who is not on a team advancing to nationals) will advance to the national championships. Event specialist qualifiers will only compete in the events they qualified.
With an NQS of 9.895, Chemotti finished the 2023 campaign atop the Mid-American Conference beam rankings. The sophomore owned the conference's beam title for seven of the season's 10 weeks.
Chemotti posted five beam scores of 9.900 better in 2023, including her season-high 9.925 performance at the Iowa State Triangular, Jan. 20. Her impressive 9.900, first-place effort in the team's regular season finale against Bowling Green, March 12, earned Chemotti her seventh top beam finish of the season. The Michigan native recorded first place finishes on beam against Arizona State, Jan. 13, Iowa State, Jan. 20, Ball State, Jan. 22, West Virginia, Jan. 29, Northern Illinois, Feb. 17, and Kent State, Feb. 26.
At last season's NCAA Norman Regional, Chemotti shined bright, bringing back her triple series with ease and earning 9.900, tying for second place. The Michigan native was the first EMU freshman to compete individually at NCAA Regionals since former Eagle Kaylyn Millick qualified in all-around in 2010.
The regional will be streamed on ESPN+, and fans can also follow via live results. Those links can be found on the gymnastics schedule page on EMUEagles.com.
