MADISON, Tenn. (EMUEagles.com) -- The George Gervin GameAbove Center, an 8,800 seat multi-purpose arena and entertainment facility located on the campus of Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Mich., is retrofitting its' center-hung videoboard and fascia with updated technology, as well as adding additional screens to the facility. The displays will feature all 3.9mm technology in the arena bowl, a first in collegiate sports. Installation is expected in early October.
The upgrades continue the arena's pursuit of cutting-edge technology and will be an attractive venue for hosting esports tournaments, as well as basketball, volleyball, and gymnastics. The four-sided center-hung videoboard display and 80 feet of LED tables will be 3.9mm; as will the 240 feet of LED fascia. Additionally, there will be a 1.9mm video wall in the atrium, as well as a retrofit of the existing roadside marquee to a 6.67mm high bright outdoor display.
"UberDisplays took the time to understand what we were trying to accomplish as a premier facility and met all our needs and more," said Scott Wetherbee, Vice President/Director of Athletics at Eastern Michigan University. "Not only did Uber provide us a better technology package option, but they also provided us a price and delivery timeline that was unmatched by anyone else in the industry."
Built in 1998, George Gervin GameAbove Center is home to the Eastern Michigan Athletic Department and the home venue for the school's basketball, volleyball, and gymnastic. Along with its commitment to EMU Athletics, the building has brought some of the finest entertainers in the world to Ypsilanti along with hosting numerous graduations and tradeshows.
"Eastern Michigan wanted to look for ways to invest in its venue to make sure fans are getting a premier experience no matter what kind of event," said Andrew Rice, co-owner and Chief Revenue Officer of UberDisplays. "The new displays in and outside the arena will really help with that. We also love the fact that almost all the equipment is 3.9mm, so that will help with service long-term".
