Almighty Williamson advances to quarterfinals in 110m hurdles

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University track & field program saw strong performances from its throwers and hurdlers on the first day of the NCAA East Preliminary round today, May 25, at the Roger C. Haugh Complex.

How It Happened
The highlight of the day for EMU came in the 110m hurdles competition where sophomore Almighty Williamson (Baltimore, Md.-Digital Harbor (Barton C.C.)) clocked in at 13.68 for 14th overall to qualify for the quarterfinals, set for Friday at 6:15 p.m. Williamson's 13.68-second clip is the second-fastest time in school history, behind former Eagle Tiberia Patterson's time of 13.67 set in 1994.

Junior Newlyn Stephenson (Gary, Ind.-Thea Bowman Leadership Academy) produced a career-best hammer throw of 65.51m for 19th. The 66.51-meter effort is good for third in the EMU record book and was the furthest throw amongst all Mid-American Conference competitors.

Seniors Joe Duff (Crosswell, Mich.-Crosswell-Lexington (Concordia University)) and Chukwusom Enekwechi (Valley Stream, N.Y.-Jamaica Gateway to the Sciences (Monroe College)) wrapped up their careers, participating in the javelin (31st - 63.29m) and shot put (30th - 17.73m), respectively.
