Prerna Vichare and Luisa Pelayo both garner their first conference postseason awards
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University tennis team saw two student-athletes earn Mid-American Conference postseason honors, announced by the league office Friday, April 29.
Freshman Prerna Vichare (Mumbai, India-College of Commerce and Economics) was voted onto the All-MAC Second Team, while redshirt senior Luisa Pelayo (Porto, Portugal-Colegio CEBES (Wright State)) garnered the Leann Grimes Davidge Sportsmanship Award.
Vichare ended her freshman season 10-14 in singles action this spring, playing the majority of her matches at No. 2 (9-12). In doubles, where she played all but one contest with classmate Sabina Brichackova (Cheb, Czech Republic-Gymnazium Jana Blahoslava), the Mumbai, India native finished 19-5. The duo played across the three spots, with most of the matches taking place at No. 2.
Earning the Leann Grimes Davidge Sportsmanship Award, Pelayo closed out her collegiate career playing all but two contests at No. 1 singles this season. The redshirt senior was 11-15 overall in a spring season that was highlighted by defeating a two-time All-Big Ten selection in Mary Lewis from Michigan State University, 7-5, 6-4, Feb. 18. The Porto, Portugal native partnered with classmate Grace Whitney (Imlay City, Mich.-Imlay CIty (Wright State)) tallying an overall record of 11-14, and were 8-9 at No. 2, specifically. Additionally, the pair ended the year on a five-match win streak.
