NORMAN, Okla. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team will be represented at the NCAA Regional Championships, March 30 - April 2. Freshman Ella Chemotti (Canton, Mich.-Canton) will represent the Eagles, competing on beam Thursday, March 31, during the second session, which begins at 7 p.m. CT.
Chemotti led the conference on beam with an NQS of 9.875, scoring 9.900-or-better three times this season. The freshman recorded a personal-best 9.950, Jan. 28, tying her for second all-time in the event. The Canton, Mich. native was tabbed as the MAC Freshman of the Year, became bars champion at the league meet, March 19, and was named to the All-MAC First Team. Her performance at the conference championship also landed her on the 2022 MAC All-Tournament Team. Furthermore, Chemotti is the first freshman to individually qualify for regionals since Kaylyn Millick qualified for all-around in 2010.
The beamer will rotate with Arizona State during the second session, competing solely on beam during the third rotation. In order to advance to the National Championship meet, Chemotti would need to be one of the top-two scoring gymnasts on the event not on a qualifying team.
The regional can be streamed on ESPN+, and fans can also follow via live results. Those links can be found on the gymnastics schedule page on EMUEagles.com.
