Tennis Completes Day One at ITA Midwest Regional

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University tennis team completed its first day of action at the ITA Midwest Regional inside the Varsity Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Michigan today, Oct. 20.
Three Eagles, Sabina Brichackova (Cheb, Czech Republic-Gymnazium Jana Blahoslava), Regina Mendez (Los Cabos, Mexico-Picacho McGregor), and Vidisha Reddy (Hyderabad, India-Villa Marie-Penwest Edinboro) took the court in the singles qualifying draw.
How it Happened
Brichackova and Reddy were first on the court for the Green and White, each getting their day started in the first round of play, at 8 a.m. Brichackova matched up against Western Michigan University's Maya Perkucin. After a 2-6 setback in the first set, she fought back to force a 12-game second set, but ultimately fell, 7-5. Reddy matched up against Ohio State University's Madeline Atway. Although Reddy fought valiantly, she ultimately dropped the match in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.
Mendez collided with Bowling Green State University's Lucy Furness in the first round of play. Locked in at the start, she was able to take the first set, 6-4. Furness, however, bounced back to win the match in three, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1.

» It was the first action of the 2022-23 campaign for all three EMU singles players. For Mendez, it was the first action of her collegiate career.
» While individual results do count toward overall individual records, no team results will be recorded during the ITA Midwest Regional or at any point during the team's fall campaign.
