Track & Field Set for Michigan Invitational

The Eagles are set to compete this Saturday at the University of Michigan, Jan. 22
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University track & field program is back in action this week for the Michigan Invitational, Jan. 22. The meet, hosted by the University of Michigan, is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. inside the U-M Indoor Track Building, starting with field events.
Eastern gained great experience at last week's Akron Quad Meet, Jan. 14, highlighted by graduate student Taige Bryant's (Edmond, Okla.-Edmond Memorial) school-record weight throw of 22.85m. The veteran thrower's 22.85m toss is good for first in the Mid-American Conference and second in the nation. Senior Kadian Clarke (Kingston, Jamaica-Immaculate Conception) recorded a season-best in the same event, claiming the top-spot in the conference with a heave of 19.65m.
On the track, junior Baldvin Magnusson (Akureyri, Iceland-Hull University) recorded personal-bests in the 800 (2nd - 1:52.79) and mile (1st - 4:04.15), while winning in the 3000 with a time of 8:09.62. Currently, the harrier ranks first in the conference in the mile, 3000, and 5000, and third in the 800. Classmate Mair Edwards (Basingstoke, England-The Costello School) was solid for the Eagles, taking first in the 400 (56.24), and running the third leg of the winning 4x400 team (3:48.35).
Between the two teams, Eastern Michigan currently owns 12 first-place marks in the conference, eight of which are on the track.
Following Saturday's meet in Ann Arbor, the Eagles will have nearly two weeks off before the distance runners trek to Notre Dame for the Meyo Invitational, Feb. 4-5.
