Soccer Soars Past Morehead State on Sunday

EMU tallies its first win of the 2021 campaign
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University soccer team earned its first win of the 2021 campaign today, defeating Morehead State by a score of 2-1 at Scicluna Field on Sunday afternoon.
The Eagles' offense strained Morehead State's offense throughout the entirety of the match, collecting 13 total shots, eight shots on goal, and five corner kick chances.
Freshman Jamie Lefebvre (London, Ontario-A.B. Lucas Secondary) and redshirt junior Madeline Olson (Libertyville, Ill.-Libertyville) led the Green and White's attack as the pair both scored goals for Eastern. Lefebvre tallied a game-high four shots (two on goal) while Olson earned a game-high three shots on goal.
Senior Lindsey Shira (New Baltimore-Anchor Bay) notched two shots on goal and redshirt junior Chloe Chatzis (Macomb, Mich.-Henry Ford II) earned a shot on target for EMU' offense on Sunday.
Senior Chelsea Abbotts (Ottawa, Ontario-Mother Teresa) recorded two saves in the victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Eastern Michigan got off to a one-goal lead early when Olson converted a penalty kick opportunity into the bottom left corner of the net in the 16th minute.
The Eagles would add to their lead in the 81st minute when Lefebvre stayed with a fifty-fifty chance at the top of the box and scored into the bottom left corner of the net.
Morehead State would score in the 89th minute but it was too little, too late, as EMU earned its first win of the 2021 season.
GAME NOTES
» Olson's score was her first of the season and her seventh career goal. She now has 19 career points donning the Green and White.
» Lefebvre's goal was her first collegiate score and her first game-winning goal. It was also the Eagles' first game-winning score of the 2021 season.
» Abbotts has now amassed 98 career saves and need just two saves to reach 100 career saves.
