EMU continues the homestand on Sunday, Sept. 5, versus Morehead State

YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Eastern Michigan University soccer team ended their matinee match against St. Bonaventure in a 1-1 tie at Scicluna Field on Friday, Sept. 3.

"It was an exciting game," Head Coach Scott Hall said. "The Bonnies were a good test for us. We are hungry for a victory and our best 90 minute-performance is still in front of us. All of us can, and will, continue to dig deeper to make bigger impacts on and off the field as we continue throughout the season."

The Eagles' offense got into a rhythm against the Bonnies, tallying season-highs in shots (19), shots on goal (11), and corner kicks (7).

Redshirt junior Chloe Chatzis (Macomb, Mich.-Henry Ford II) led Eastern's offense with her first goal of the 2021 campaign. The score was Chatzis' second goal in her collegiate career.

Twelve different Eagles recorded shots in the contest, eight of which tallied a shot on target. Senior Lindsey Shira (New Baltimore, Mich.-Anchor Bay), redshirt junior Madeline Olson (Libertyville, Ill.-Libertyville) and freshman Jamie Lefebvre (London, Ontario-A.B. Lucas Secondary) all notched a team-high two shots on goal for the Green and White.

Freshman Maddie O'Farrell (Haslett, Mich.-Lansing Catholic) led EMU with a shot on goal in 47 minutes played off the bench.

Both teams could not find the back of the net in the first 45 minutes of play. The Eagles led the Bonnies in total shots (7-4), corner kick opportunities (3-0), and saves (3-2).

The Eagles found the back of the net first, scoring in the 82nd minute off the right foot of Chatzis.

Eastern Michigan would hold the lead for only five minutes, as the Bonnies later scored in the 87th minute. The late equalizer left the match tied at one score apiece as the match hit full time.

The two teams went the distance as neither squad could net a golden goal in the overtime periods.

The Eagles will continue their two-match homestand on Sunday, Sept. 5, when the Green and White host Morehead State. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
