The Eagles host nine matches at Scicluna Field
COMPLETE 2021 SCHEDULE
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University's soccer program announced the team's 2021 schedule, which features 19 contests this fall, including 11 Mid-American Conference matches and nine contests at Scicluna Field.
The Eagles will begin the season with an exhibition match, hosting Detroit Mercy Thursday, Aug. 12, before beginning the 2021 regular season. Kickoff for the exhibition match is set for 5 p.m.
Eastern Michigan starts the 2021 campaign close to home, hosting Illinois State (Aug. 19) and traveling to East Lansing, Mich. to take on Michigan State (Aug. 22). Illinois State finished 2020-21 with an overall record of 4-7-1 (4-4 MVC) and had the second-ranked scoring offense in the Missouri Valley Conference (1.33gpg). The Redbirds were also second in their conference in total goals (16) and total points (42).
Michigan State finished last season with an overall record of 1-10-1 (1-9-1 Big Ten). The Spartans 4.58 saves per game ranked fifth in the Big Ten.
The Eagles will spend the final week of August in the state of New York for a two-match weekend where the Green and White face Colgate (Aug. 26) and Syracuse (Aug. 29).
Colgate finished 2020-21 with an overall record of 4-3-2 (3-3-1 Patriot) and ranked second in the Patriot League in scoring offense last season (1.33gpg). Syracuse finished last season with an overall record of 1-7 (1-7 ACC). The Orange's 9.12 saves per game led the Atlantic Coast Conference in 2020-21.
Eastern begins September with a two-game homestand, hosting St. Bonaventure (Sept. 3) and Morehead State (Sept. 5). St. Bonaventure finished 2020-21 with an overall record of 7-10-1 (3-6-1 A-10) including 6.50 saves per contest last season, a mark that led the Atlantic 10 Conference.
Morehead State's offense ranked ninth in the Ohio Valley Conference as the Eagles finished 2-8 (2-8 OVC) last season.
The Green and White finish their non-conference schedule with a weekend in Illinois battling Western Illinois (Sept. 17) and Loyola-Chicago (Sept. 19).
Western Illinois finished last season ninth in The Summit League in total goals (10) and total points (29) on its way to an overall record of 2-13-1 (2-13-1 SUMMIT). Loyola-Chicago finished its 2020-21 campaign with a third-straight Missouri Valley Conference title, finishing the season with an overall record of 8-2-1 (6-1-1 MVC).
The Eagles begin their MAC slate with a road match against Ball State (Sept. 23) and finish the month of September with consecutive home matches against Miami (Sept. 26) and Western Michigan (Sept. 30).
EMU begins October in DeKalb, Ill. to compete against Northern Illinois (Oct. 3). The Eagles will return to Ypsilanti, Mich. to play Buffalo (Oct. 7) and travel to Akron (Oct. 10).
The Green and White then travel to face Bowling Green State (Oct. 14). The Falcons are the reigning MAC champions, winning the conference tournament the past three seasons.
The Eagles will finish their regular season with three of their four final matches at Scicluna Field, beginning with a match versus Toledo (Oct. 17).
Eastern Michigan travels to Athens, Ohio to compete in their final road game of the regular season against Ohio (Oct. 21) and completes their regular season with two home matches against Kent State (Oct. 24) and Central Michigan (Oct. 28).
