Kassidy Jensen and Alex Wendler will join EMU as assistant athletic trainers
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University Associate Athletics Director of Sports Medicine Gretchen Fox announced two additions to her staff today, Aug. 6. Kassidy Jensen, a graduate assistant athletic trainer at EMU, and Alex Wendler, a graduate assistant athletic trainer at the Northern Illinois University, are the newest additions to EMU's sports medicine department.
Jensen will oversee the care for the rowing program, while Wendler will assist the coverage of football and tennis.
"We are thrilled to retain Kassidy and welcome Alex to our Sports Medicine family," said Fox. "Alex and Kassidy are both energetic young professionals that bring a wealth of knowledge and experience with their respective sports to our program, which will benefit the health care services we provide to our student-athletes."
Prior to being elevated to a full-time role, Jensen spent the previous two academic years with EMU as a graduate assistant.
Before arriving in Ypsilanti, Jensen spent time with a number of different collegiate athletic departments in intern roles. In 2019, she worked for Calvin University in Grand Rapids, Mich. where she assisted in the day-to-day sports medicine needs of the men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's basketball, and men's hockey teams. Prior to Calvin, she spent the fall of 2018 at Davenport University, working with the football program. She has also had stints with Grand Valley State University, as well as multiple high school programs. Additionally, she has worked for both Spectrum Health and North Ottawa Community Hospital in a number of capacities.
In addition to her master's degree in Sport management from EMU, she also holds a bachelor's degree in Athletic Training from Grand Valley State.
Jensen is a Certified Athletic Trainer in the State of Michigan and is a member of the National Athletic Trainer's Association.
Wendler joined Eastern following a two-year stint as a graduate assistant with the Northern Illinois University athletic department. There, he worked with the football and track and field programs. He oversaw the day-to-day treatment for the 2021 MAC champion women's indoor track and field team.
Prior to his stint in DeKalb, Ill., Wendler spent a summer with the National Football League's Baltimore Ravens, where he was an athletic training intern for the team.
As an undergraduate student at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, Wendler was heavily involved with athletics. He completed five clinical rotations with four different La Crosse teams en route to earning his bachelor's degree in Athletic Training.
He added a master's degree in Sport management from NIU in the spring of 2021.
In addition to his degrees, Wendler is a Certified Athletic Trainer, Licensed Athletic Trainer in Michigan, and is a member of the National Athletic Trainer's Association (NATA) and the Great Lakes Athletic Trainer's Association (GLATA).
