The Farmington Hills, Mich. native spent two seasons at Oakland

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University men's basketball and first-year Head Coach Stan Heath signed Yusuf Jihad (Farmington Hills, Mich.-North Farmington (Oakland)) to the team's 2021-22 roster, the team announced today, Aug. 2.

Jihad will join the Eagles after spending the last two seasons at Oakland University. The center will be considered a junior in the classroom, but a redshirt freshman athletically for the 2021-22 campaign.

"Yusuf is an active high energy player. At 6-foot-8 and 215, he runs the floor well, goes after rebounds, and is working hard on his perimeter and post skills," Heath said. "Although he has spent two seasons in college, he's only 18 years old. I have no doubt Yusuf's best basketball is ahead of him."

Jihad played in 17 games off the bench last season, averaging 1.5 points and 5.3 minutes for the Golden Grizzlies. The center totaled a career-best eight points on 4-of-6 shooting in 10 minutes at Detroit Mercy (Dec. 26). Additionally, Jihad grabbed a season-high five rebounds against Wright State (Jan. 1). The redshirt freshman did not play his first season at OU and earned a redshirt.

The Farmington Hills, Mich. native graduated from North Farmington High School and played for Head Coach Todd Negoshian. Jihad, a two-year letterwinner, was a Detroit News All-State Third Team selection and a Detroit Free Press All-State Honorable Mention recipient. The 6-foot-8 redshirt freshman averaged 18.0 points and 7.0 rebounds during his final campaign and was voted Oakland County's Most Valuable Player. In addition, Jihad was a Top-5 North Suburb selection and was a two-time honor roll student.

Eastern Michigan continues its offseason schedule and prepares for the 2021-22 season with Coach Heath at the helm of the program.
