Eagles See 18 Earn WCGA Academic All-America Honors

The team ranked 12th in the nation in team GPA
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics program had 18 student-athletes earn Academic All-American status for the 2020-21 year by the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA), the office announced today, Aug. 11.
"I am extremely proud of the work this team puts into their academics," said Head Coach Katie Minasola "They are so focused in the classroom and take great pride in everything they do."
The team ranked 12th in the country out of the participating 75 institutions with a collective grade point average (GPA) of 3.7990. Only two Mid-American Conference programs ranked higher, with Northern Illinois coming in first (3.8740) and Kent State at 11th (3.8045).
Individually, the student-athletes to earn the honor are graduates Cortney Bezold, Brianna Price, Jada Rondeau, senior Cali Harden (Saline, Mich.-Saline), juniors Shannon Gregory (Edison, N.J.-John P. Stevens), Carly Kosanovich (Moon Twp., Pa.-Moon Area), Charlotte Reynolds (Leominster, Mass.-Leominster), Caitlin Satler (Orland Park, Ill.-Carl Sandburg), sophomores Hadyn Crossen (Carmel, Ind.-Carmel), Hannah Hartung (Lincoln, Neb.-Lincoln East), Corey Melcher (Ypsilanti, Mich.-Saline), Molly Parris (Hudson, Ohio-Hudson), Mickayla Stuckey (Union City, Ind.- Indiana Connections Academy), and freshmen Raisa Boris (Brooklyn Park, Minn.-Park Center), Katie Butler (Avon, Ohio-Magnificant), Jordan Jankowski (Frisco, Texas-Independence), Anna Grace McCullough (Birmingham, Ala.-Briarwood Christian), and Sophia Rios (DeWitt, Mich.-DeWitt).
Additionally, there were 58 teams with a team GPA of 3.5-or-better on a 4.0 scale, up from 53 teams last year. There were 223 (15.41%) student-athletes with a 4.0 GPA, and a record number – 1,059 (73.19%) – of gymnasts with a 3.5 or better GPA. Last year there were 889 (65.56%) all-academic team members. This is the first time the association have had more than 1,000 honorees.
"The academic success of the women's collegiate gymnastics programs across the country truly exemplifies the commitment to excellence in the classroom," Kerrie Turner, WCGA president and head coach at Bowling Green, said. "Despite the adversity faced during the COVID 19 pandemic, the student-athletes and teams continued to stay focused on the opportunity to learn and grow regardless of the in-person or remote educational environments. The accolades earned are a testament to the dedication, commitment, and incredible work ethic fostered within our member programs."
