Rice will join the Eagles after a year-stint at Delta College
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's basketball program and first-year Head Coach Stan Heath look to build EMU's 2021-22 roster with the signing of Michigan native and Delta College transfer Kevin-David Rice (Flint, Mich.-Grand Blanc (Delta College)), the team announced today, May 24.
The Flint, Mich. product will join the Green and White for the upcoming season after spending his freshman campaign with the Pioneers. Rice will be classified as a freshman on the Eagles' roster.
"Kevin Rice is a three-point shooter and a highly-skilled player with a high basketball IQ," said Heath. "He's a player that puts a lot of pressure on the opponent's defense with his skill set."
Rice was a key member of the Pioneers' squad that won the Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) North Conference Championship with a 4-1 league mark. The Flint, Mich. native played in and started 12 games for Delta College last season. Rice, the MCCAA North Conference Freshman and Player of the Year, averaged a team-best 25.3 points per game with a 44.7 field goal percentage (97-of-217).
A Second Team All-American, Rice's point-per-game average ranked second in Division II of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). The 6-foot-4 product tallied double digits in every game he played in 2020-21, including a career 39 points against St. Clair County Community College (Feb. 23).
Rice graduated from Grand Blanc Community High School in 2020 and played under Head Coach Mike Thomas. The four-year letterwinner and three-time captain led the Bobcats to an 18-3 overall record during his final season. The freshman earned All-State honorable mention and first team all-conference, while averaging 16.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game as a senior.
Eastern Michigan continues its offseason schedule and prepares for the 2021-22 season with Coach Heath at the helm of the program.
