Eagles Unable to Hold Off Bulls in 6-1 Loss

Pelayo and Whitney close out the season with their 18th doubles win

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University tennis team was unable to pull off the Senior Day victory, losing to the University at Buffalo today, May 2, 6-1. Eastern honored three student-athletes before the match for Senior Day in redshirt juniors Essence Eaton (Southfield, Mich.-Southfield Lathrup) and Morgan Ingram (Charlotte, N.C.-Grace Academy (Marion Military Institute)), and redshirt sophomore Natalia Regalado (Alicante, Spain-IES Figueras Pacheco).
"Today was very tough," said Head Coach Jayson Wiseman. "We didn't adjust to the wind fast enough and Buffalo played a great match. We look forward to next season and thank everyone for their support this year."
The No. 2 doubles pairing of redshirt juniors Luisa Pelayo (Porto, Portugal-Colegio CEBES (Wright State)) and Grace Whitney (Imlay City, Mich.-Imlay City (Wright State)) earned their 18th win of the season with a 6-4 victory. Ingram and redshirt sophomore Julia Piatek (Melgiew, Poland-Liceum Lublin (Salem)) battled at No. 3 but fell, 4-6, as Buffalo claimed the doubles point.
In singles action, redshirt junior Vasavi Ganesan (Tamil Nadu, India-Alagappa Matriculation School (Eastern Florida State)) played another tough three-set match at No. 2, winning 4-6, 6-3, 1-0. In the No. 4 spot, redshirt freshman Emma-Lou Pommiers (Aire-sur-L'Adour, France-Saint Dominique Pau) gave her opponent all she could handle, going to three sets but ultimately falling, 6-7, 6-4, 0-1. The Eagles were unable to secure another point, as they were defeated by the Bulls, 6-1.
