Tennis Prepares for MAC-Packed Weekend

The Eagles square off against Bowling Green and Toledo
BOWLING GREEN & TOLEDO, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University tennis team will take on two Mid-American Conference foes this weekend, facing off against Bowling Green State University and University of Toledo. The Eagles will host the Falcons Friday, April 9, inside the Chippewa Club with action commencing at 1 p.m. On Sunday, April 11, the Green and White trek south for a contest at the Rockets, also scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
For the Eagles (9-9; 1-5 MAC), they are coming off a productive 2-0 outing last Friday, April 2, in the State of Indiana. There, Eastern Michigan squared off against Butler where it pulled out a hard-fought victory over the Bulldogs. Despite not securing the doubles point, the Green and White stepped up in singles with four big wins. The final point came from redshirt sophomore Julia Piatek (Melgiew, Poland-Liceum Lublin (Salem)) in three sets. After losing the first set, 3-6, the Poland native stormed back, going 6-3, 6-3 to give her team the win, 4-3.
Later in the day, EMU blanked Indiana Tech, 7-0, inside the Wildwood Racquet Club. In the match, the doubles pairing of redshirt freshman Isabelle Popma (Straphorst, Netherlands-Center for Sports and Education) and redshirt junior Vasavi Ganesan (Tamil Nadu, India-Alagappa Matriculation School (Eastern Florida State)) cruised to their second win of the day, 6-1. In fact, all three doubles teams bested their Warrior counterparts while all Eagles won in singles action. Redshirt freshman Emma-Lou Pommiers (Aire sur l'Adour, France-Saint Dominique Pau) dominated, quickly taking down her competition at the No. 4 spot, 6-0, 6-0.
Friday's match is the first meeting between Eastern Michigan and Bowling Green (8-5; 4-3 MAC) this season. The two squads last met April 27, 2018, in Muncie, Ind. with the Falcons coming out on top 4-2. Most recently, BGSU fell to UT at home, 3-4. Meanwhile, Sunday's showdown will be the second and final regular season between the Eagles and the Rockets. The last time the two squads met, the Green and White triumphed inside the Chippewa Club, dropping Toledo, 4-3 for their first conference win of the season.
The following weekend, Eastern Michigan hit the road for league play against Ball State and Northern Illinois. Action versus the Cardinals takes place Friday, April 16th at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center at 1 p.m. Then on Sunday, the Huskies host the Eagles at the Huskie Tennis Court for a 12 p.m. CT.
