EMU Tennis Claims Second Sweep of MAC Weekly Honors

This is the second time Pelayo and Whitney has collected doubles honors

CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University tennis team claimed both Mid-American Conference weekly honors, the league office announced Wednesday, March 24. Redshirt junior Vasavi Ganesan (Tamil Nadu, India-Algappa Matriculation School (Eastern Florida State)) earned MAC Singles Player of the Week and the doubles pairing of redshirt juniors Luisa Pelayo (Porto, Portugal-Colegio Cebes (Wright State)) and Grace Whitney (Imlay City, Mich.-Imlay City (Wright State)) were named MAC Doubles Team of the Week. 

Ganesan collected her second conference honor after earning a total of two singles wins last weekend against Western Michigan, March 19, and Miami, March 21. The redshirt junior played both matches at No. 3 and earned both victories in three sets. The India native won the first versus the Broncos, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3, while defeating her RedHawk opponent, 4-6, 6-4, 10-8.

Eastern Michigan's No. 2 doubles pairing is setting the pace, and continued their winning streak in doubles for The Eagles against Western Michigan, March 19. The duo has won six consecutive matches for the Green and White, defeating the Broncos 6-2, and improving to 8-1 in the No. 2 spot, 9-4 overall. This is the second time earning the doubles team of the week honor for the pair.
