YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University tennis team is ready for its first conference tune-ups against Ball State University Friday, March 12, and Northern Illinois Sunday, March 14. The Mid-American Conference clashes will both take place at 1 p.m. inside EMU's Chippewa Club.

Eastern (6-4; 0-0 MAC) is coming off a four-match win streak with three consecutive 6-1 victories over Oakland University (Feb. 26 doubleheader and March 6) and a 4-3 triumph over Wayne State University (Feb. 21). In singles play, redshirt junior Luisa Pelayo (Porto, Portugal-Colegio Cebes (Wright State)) has been electric, boasting an 8-1 record so far this season at the No. 3 spot, most recently besting her Oakland opposition 6-0, 6-0. The pair of Pelayo and redshirt junior teammate Grace Whitney (Imlay City, Mich.-Imlay City (Wright State)) are also off to a great start, as the duo compiled a 5-1 record at the No. 2 doubles flight in non-conference play.

Meanwhile, Ball State (9-2; 0-0) is coming in with a hot streak of its own, being victorious in its last nine matches. The Cardinals' most recent loss came at the hands of the University of Notre Dame, where the Irish blanked BSU 7-0 in South Bend, Ind., Jan. 29.

Northern Illinois (6-5; 0-0 MAC) rolls into Ypsilanti on National Pi Day after a 7-0 win over St. Francis (Ill.), March 6. The Huskies host Bowing Green State Friday, March 12, before coming to the Chippewa Club.
