The senior won the 1-meter and 3-meter events at Bowling Green, Jan. 29
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) - Eastern Michigan University swimming and diving senior Bethany Berger (Batavia, Ohio-Glen Este) has been named the Mid-American Conference Diver of the Week, the league office announced today, Feb. 3.
The honor is the first for Berger in her career, and marks the first recognition for the EMU swimming and diving program since Delaney Duncan won swimmer of the week, Jan. 23, 2019. Berger was previously named MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week during the 2019-20 season.
Berger swept the diving events in Eastern Michigan's win over Bowling Green, Jan. 29. The senior won the 1-meter event with a score of 273.90 and 3-meter with a season-best 295.50. Both marks are NCAA Zone C qualifying marks, and Berger's score in 3-meter marked her first Zone C 3-meter qualifying mark of the 2020-21 campaign after previously recording qualifying marks of 292.21 in 1-meter against Toledo, Nov. 6, and 276.83 against Akron, Nov. 20. The Batavia, Ohio native has now won 1-meter diving in all three of EMU's meets this season and notched her first 3-meter victory to bring her total to four wins on the season.
Eastern will return to the pool Friday, Feb. 5 at Oakland University. The meet is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
