YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University men's basketball team bested Western Illinois University in dramatic fashion with a 72-68 victory to earn its second win of the season today, Nov. 24, inside the Convocation Center.
The Eagles (2-3, 0-0 MAC) were helped by 22 points of the bench, including 12 from junior guard Bryce McBride (Jackson, Tenn.-Southside (Dyersburg State C.C.)). In addition to McBride, two other members of the Green and White scored in double digits, led by senior Monty Scott (Union City, N.J.-St. Benedict's Prep (Portland State)) with 16 points, while freshman Noah Farrakhan (Newark, N.J.-The Patrick School (East Carolina)) dropped 14.
On the defensive end, senior Nate Scott (Naperville, Ill.-Nequa Valley (Northern Illinois)) paced the team with seven boards to go along with one block and one steal. Senior captain Darion Spottsville (Phoenix, Ariz.-Shadow Mountain (South Mountain C.C.)) was a workhorse for the Eagles, wrangling in five rebounds and two steals, including the huge swipe with 16 seconds left to help seal the deal. Additionally, the guard scored nine points, dropped two dimes, and drew six fouls.

However, WIU held a 27-25 advantage going into the break, thanks to shooting 9-for-12 (75%) from the line compared to EMU's 1-6 (16.67%).
Eastern Michigan got its shot back, bringing the score to within one, 39-38, before going on a 6-0 run to seize a 44-39 lead with 12:45 to go in the contest. The Eagles then jumped out to an eight-point lead, 52-44, sparked by a monster dunk from freshman Colin Golson Jr. (Detroit, Mich.-Ferndale (Siena)). Western climbed back to even the game at 62-all with 4:19 left on the clock. The two teams went back-and-forth for the remainder of the game until McBride hit four huge free throws in the final 28 seconds to seal the deal at 72-68.
