Former Eagle Boubacar Toure will participate in the Yaoundé qualifying tournament
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Former Eastern Michigan University men's basketball standout Boubacar Toure (Dakar, Senegal-Phase One Academy (Grand Canyon)) was called up to the Senegal National Team to participate in the Yaoundé, Cameroon qualifying tournament for AfroBasket 2021, Feb. 19-21.
This year's tournament returns to Yaoundé for the second time after the central African country hosted the First Round of Group C in Feb. 2020. The national teams that finish in the first three places of each group will qualify for the 30th edition of Africa's premier basketball competition, which will take place in the Rwandan capital of Kigali, Aug. 24-Sept. 5.
The center started all 32 games for the Eagles and led the Mid-American Conference with a 65.5 field-goal percentage (144-of-220) last season. The 7-foot Toure ranked first on the team with 9.3 rebounds per game, while averaging 10.7 points per game. His rebounding average was good for fourth in the conference. The Dakar, Senegal native was one of three student-athletes who averaged a double-double (11.4 ppg; 10.3 rpg) in MAC play
Toure tallied 13 double-doubles last year, with his final performance coming in the first round of the MAC Tournament at Kent State with 14 points and 13 rebounds, March 9, 2020.
Not only did Toure help the MAC's second-best defense by clearing the glass, but he also finished fourth in the league with 44 total blocks (1.4 bpg). The redshirt senior anchored EMU's signature 2-3 zone as he posted 14 games with multiple swats, including a career-high five blocks against Central Michigan, Feb. 29.
Toure finished his EMU career with 31 double-figure scoring performances, 21 double-doubles, and led the Eagles in rebounding 34 times. His 65.3 career field-goal percentage (252-of-386) is the best in program history, and his 86 career blocks are good for ninth in the team's record book.
