YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Have you spent the summer looking for a fun and affordable way to hang out with your friends, win big prizes, and even compete against others? If so, then the Eastern Michigan University Department of Athletics has the perfect opportunity for you!

Together with corporate partners, EMU is excited to announce a first of its kind event, the 2020 Eastern Michigan Athletics Virtual Golf Outing Presented by Saint Joseph Mercy Health System! The first-time event will allow for all members of the EMU, Southeast Michigan, and global community to come together virtually in a fun, interactive, and highly impactful way.

The event will allow individuals and teams of up-to four golfers to play one 18-hole round at any desired golf course between Sept. 12-20, 2020. The participants will use a traditional scramble format to determine their score, and will send it in when they complete their round. The top-three teams (ties determined by video coin flip) will receive prizes valued at more than $500, including official adidas merchandise (golf quarter-zips, polo shirts, headwear), $200 worth of Amazon gift cards, and customized golf ball packages, while every participant will be sent an EMU Virtual Golf Outing prize pack (includes custom EMU golf towel, tees, and poker chip ball marker), as well as a commemorative official scorecard. Like any great golf outing, there will be plenty of on-course opportunities for fun and prizes as well, including a virtual "closest to the pin," challenge.

The cost to register for the event is $40 per participant. Golfers will then need to pay the appropriate greens fees at whichever course they choose to compete at for the event. The $40 registration fee does include a door prize, which will be shipped directly to the address provided at the time of registration. All those who register on or before Sept. 1 will receive their door prize package prior to the official start of the event. Participants who register after Sept. 1 should expect a slight delay in shipping.

Proceeds from participant registration fees will directly benefit the EMU Department of Athletics and its student-athletes.

Additionally, there will be a variety of fun ways to earn additional prizes and support EMU Athletics throughout the outing.

Support a Student-Athlete: Each golfer will have the option to pay an additional one dollar per hole ($18) at the time of registration to extend their support for student-athletes at EMU! For the additional contribution, the golfer will receive a one-stroke deduction of the team's final score. Each team can earn up to four strokes off their final score!

Purchase Mulligans: Mulligans (up to five) can be purchased for $5 at the time of registration.

"E" on the Tee: Interested in earning a FREE mulligan for your team? Wear a "Block E," or "Script E," on any tee box, and snap a photo! From there, post it on Twitter or Facebook, tag @EMUAthletics, and use the #EMUVirtualGolf. Do that, and you have a free mulligan! Each team can earn up-to one mulligan per participant via this promotion.

Farthest Drive: Playing far from Ypsilanti? You're in luck! We have a prize for the participant who registers at an address the farthest away from EMU's campus.

Worst Shot/Lie: Not a pro? No big deal! Snap a photo of the WORST lie or shot position that you have throughout your round. Post it on Twitter or Facebook and tag @EMUAthletics using #BadShot, and you could win a prize!

Closest to the Pin: This one is easy. Snap a photo of your tee shot on the first par-3 that you play in your round. Post it to Twitter or Facebook, tag @EMUAthletics, and say "I think I'm #closest" for your chance to win a great prize!

Silent Auction: As with any great outing, a virtual silent auction will take place during the course of the event. Stay tuned for specific details regarding the silent auction!
