EMU again recorded a banner year in charitable contributions to support student-athletes

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University Department of Athletics announced today, July 28, it broke another all-time fundraising record in fiscal year 2020 (July 1, 2019-June 30, 2020), building momentum in a multi-year trend of raising the bar in development.

More than $9,800,000 was raised thanks to the generosity of alumni, fans and friends supporting 450+ student-athletes competing for the Green and White. These totals include donations made or pledged toward the Eastern Athletic Fund, sport-specific crowdfunding efforts, capital projects and legacy giving.

"Fiscal year '20 shifted drastically in March when COVID-19 changed the world as we know it," EMU Vice President/Director of Athletics Scott Wetherbee said. "However the generosity of our donors, fans and friends and their belief in supporting our student-athletes did not waiver. Special notes of gratitude are also merited to Regent Emeritus and Former Board Chairman Mike Morris and his wife Linda Morris for their support of the Student-Athlete Performance Center. Additionally, to GameAbove, a team of passionate alumni who desire to make a difference for all of EMU and the Ypsilanti community, for their historic support of our golf programs and many special initiatives."

"Bolstered by our donors' support, the 2019-20 academic year was unprecedented with so many accomplishments by our student-athletes in the classroom, community and in competition," added Dan McLean, EMU Senior Associate AD for Development. "We are so grateful to each and every donor who positively impacted our efforts and appreciate the opportunity to steward their generosity for years to come. I also want to echo Scott's special thanks to Regent Emeritus Mike and Linda Morris, as well as GameAbove for all they have done and continue to do for Eastern Michigan and Ypsilanti."
