Dunn registered four second-half saves in first win of the season
DETROIT, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's soccer team defeated the University of Detroit Mercy, 1-0, Aug. 25 at Titan Field to claim their first victory of the 2019 season.
Marla Cobetto (Trenton, Mich.-Trenton) scored her first goal of the season to lift the Eagles over the Titans.
EMU dominated possession in the first half of play. Although the Green and White fired off four shots, two of which came from Amanda Cripps (Bradford, Ontario-Trinity Catholic), the Titans' defense was able to stop the threats from the Eagles.
The Eagles limited the Titans to just one shot while holding a 6-0 advantage in corners in the first 45 minutes of play.
After the break, Cobetto scored the game-winner in the 54th minute on a cross from Maggie McCullough (London, Ontario-Oakridge Secondary) to the far side of the goal.
In goal, Mabel Dunn (Oakville, Ontario-White Oaks Secondary) recorded four saves, all of which occurred in the second half on nine shot attempts by Detroit Mercy.
Despite the offensive attack in the second half by the Titans, the Eagles finished with a 12-10 advantage in shots, seven of which were on goal, as well as an eight-to-four advantage in corners.
Eastern Michigan continues their road tilt Thursday, Aug. 29 at 7 p.m. when they visit in-state rival Michigan State.
