YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — It was another record-setting season in both athletics and academics for Eastern Michigan University student-athletes in 2018-19.

The Eagles finished near the top in the battle for the Mid-American Conference all-sports championships. The women's athletic program turned in a second-place showing in the race for the Jacoby Trophy, while the men's athletic program finished fifth in the battle for the Reese Trophy.

It marked the eighth time in the past 12 years that Eastern Michigan placed inside the top-five spots in both standings. Furthermore, when the averages from both the Reese and Jacoby Trophies are combined, Eastern ranks second in the league behind only Miami University, which won both the awards in 2018-19.

Eastern Michigan won its fourth consecutive women's cross country title while the volleyball team won its first MAC Tournament Championship after finishing tied for second in the West Division. Women's swimming & diving finished as the runner-up at the championships for fifth consecutive season, while women's indoor track & field added a second-place finish.

On the men's side, the men's golf team notched its third MAC title and first since 2008 as it shared the team championship with Kent State University. Both men's indoor track & field and outdoor track & field also finished as the runner-up at their respective championships. Football finished tied for second in the West Division good for its best finish since the league switched to the divisional format in 1997.

Coupled with three Mid-American Conference team titles and 15 individual MAC championships, the 2018-19 campaign was one of the most successful seasons in Eastern Michigan history. In the classroom, EMU student-athletes posted a cumulative 3.270 grade point average (GPA) during the winter semester, the highest mark on record.  It was the 19th term in a row EMU student-athletes have earned over a 3.0 GPA.

For their efforts, 63 EMU student-athletes earned All-MAC honors (28 - first team, 26 - second team, six - third team, and three honorable mention) in 2018-19. Additionally, the conference office acknowledged EMU student-athletes on 49 different occasions for Player of the Week accolades.

Furthermore, 24 student-athletes were singled out for MAC Distinguished Scholar Student-Athletes with 140 earning Academic All-MAC accolades. A total of eight EMU standouts were selected for the prestigious weekly MAC Scholar-Athlete Award, which is given to just one male and one female student-athlete from nominees of all 12 league schools.
